JOURNEY TO THE WORLDS 2010

The lessons in this course are videos I made while training for the 2010 World Long Drive Championships. If you watch all of them (they are only a few minutes long each) you will learn a lot about how you should be changing the way you spend your time on the range and how you can work smarter to improve your golf game.

My goal when I filmed them wasn’t so much to document the year as it was to explain how I train and show through real-world examples how I prepare to compete.

It’s one thing to fix your swing. In my opinion golfers spend far too much time focused on swing technique, and not enough time on

But it’s not their fault. Almost nobody teaches golfers how to prepare to play, compete, and perform. I think that is a shame and it is my goal to start changing the conversation. I can’t wait for the day Joe Golfer goes to his pro and asks him for help hitting more fairways and sinking more putts instead of fixing their swing plane or getting another 10 yards.

These are conversations I have all the time with my students as I try to help them understand the difference between what it takes to change a swing and what it takes to perform your best in competition. They are not the same thing.

I use the term “practice” to refer to a focus on swing changes. I use the word “training” to refer to a focus on performance. I use these words very deliberately because I believe that the sooner more golfers understand the difference the sooner they will actually get better at shooting lower scores (not making a prettier swing).

In the end it was a wild year with lots of ups and downs that ultimately ended up with me tearing my rotator cuff in an exhibition, trying to deal with that through a cortisone shot – which failed me in the 2nd round – and then heading for surgery a few months later.

Nevertheless there are lots of things you can learn from the videos. I encourage you to watch them and begin to incorporate some of the training methods into your range time so that you can start seeing better results in your golf game.

This course is free. Enjoy!
